The reviews looked good, the range looked about right, (needed them to reach at least a mile), and simple to use. They hit on all cylinders. Fantastic radios, and bonus surprise, my folks call and cut up on them with my wife and i, so we really get a kick out of hearing my dad sing in Crystal clear audio every old hank Williams song he can think of....over the radio from his lazy boy in their living room.If you're looking for an easy to use, great battery, LOUD, long distance and very affordable two-way radio, look no further.I may even buy a few more to keep at the farm to check on my dad when he's on the tractor cutting hay. These radios work great with crazy long range and battery life. I can talk and hear clearly from right around a mile away and that's in town with buildings and trees in the way. Get beyond that and reception drops off quick, though. When they are turned on, the batteries last about 30 hours with moderate use before a voice comes from the speaker telling you to change the battery. The only issue is the charger bases are pretty goofy and you really have to fiddle with putting the radios in them to seat correctly to actually charge. The LED in the base should indicate green BEFORE you cradle the radio and red after if you got it in correctly (unless the radio's battery is at full charge already).
